Sometimes Less Is Not More

I have been in the search for the perfect cardigan for quite some time now. A cardigan is a wardrobe style, so it definitely validates itself as an investment piece. Yet, I just can not bring myself to spend $100 plus on a sweater. I prefer the thin soft knits, so inevitability it will snag. And with my luck, the more I spend the sooner it will happen.

So while browsing Nordstrom Rack I came across a so-so cardigan for $10. For that price, I really wouldn't care all too much if it got a small hole in it. I wouldn't feel like I threw away my paycheck. I was not in love with this cardigan, but it was okay. I carried it around with me for a while because I still wasn't sure. My New Years resolution was to buy things that I loved not because they are so cheap. Any experienced bargain hunter has fallen into this trap a few times. It doesn't matter if something is $1, if you never wear it or don't like it all that much, it is a wasted dollar.

So, I put the cardigan down and walked out of the store empty handed. Sometimes its wiser to spend a little more for something you will enjoy more.

Swagbucks

I've become quite excited about a search engine called Swag Bucks. There are lots of scam programs out there promising all sorts of things, but Swag Bucks is one of the few programs I've found that really works.

If you're unfamiliar with Swag Bucks, basically it's a search engine that randomly rewards you with points just for doing online searches. Seriously, that's all there is to it.

You'll likely earn between 1-3 points per day for searches and when you have 45 points, you can cash in for a $5 Amazon gift card, among other various cool prizes.

Swag Bucks is rolling out a brand-new toolbar for September and they are giving away a free 1-point Swag Code every day in September to everyone who downloads the toolbar here. That's almost 30 free points you can earn without doing anything!
.
Plus, if you have yet to sign up for a Swag Bucks account, you can get 5 free points for doing so right now. Sign up here and you'll get 3 free points.

Free Covergirl @ CVS

In the 8/30 P&G insert there is a coupon for $1 any Covergirl cosmetic, as well as a Buy CG Foundation Get Any Face Product Free.

Covergirl foundation is priced at $4.99 and through Saturday you will receive a $2 ECB (Extra Care Buck) to use on your next order. (Limit 1)

What is an ECB? An ECB is a rebate for buying a certain product except it is only valid for future purchases at CVS. Similar to several store reward programs, it's consider CVS "money" and can be used to buy anything, the only thing it is not valid for is sales tax.

Through today at midnight, Coppertone Nutrashield sunblock is on sale for $6.99. There is also a $5 off coupon available here.

I bought the Covergirl Foundation ($4.99), Covergirl Foundation Base SPF 10 ($10.99), and Coppertone Nutrashield sunblock ($6.99)

Total of $22.97 + tax before coupons.

Use $4/$20 available at the pharmacy counter for asking about their ReadyFill Perscriptions.

- $1 off any CG cosmetic coupon

- $10.99 CG face cosmetic for buying the foundation coupon

- $5 Nutrashield sunblock coupon

Bringing the total to just about $2 + tax and you will receive $2 ECB to spend next time! You will need a CVS Card to do this deal but if you don't already have one you can sign up for free at the register.

I had a $2 ECB to use from a previous purchase, so all I had to pay was tax! A time goes on you will accumulate these as well.

If this is a tad confusing, don't worry you will get it! It just takes time. I know I was definitely overwhelmed at first. CVS has become one of my favorite stores because it is the easiest place to score things for free!

My Secret Weapon: Coupons!

I think coupons are highly underrated. So, maybe you aren't the one grocery shopping for your family but there are so many coupons out there other then fifty cents off milk, that are completely relatable to teens. Some even causing you to get great items, like make-up, for free or almost free.

How is this possible? Coupons typically come in your Sunday paper or are printable for free online. You then match these coupons with a great sale and viola free make-up. Sometimes, you will have to hold on to the coupons for a couple of months, so be sure to have a place to store them. The easiest way is to staple the coupon inserts together as soon as you get them. Then write the date on the front, and stick them in a binder or accordian file. Quick, easy and simple. I'm a lazy person so I've found this system to be the easiest possible. Through out the blog, when I post deals I will include the date and name of the coupon so it will be very easy to find and require minimal effort on your part.

Okay, so now that we've got that squared away, let's get on to the deals! If you don't have any coupons yet, don't worry! The deals always come around again, so if you start collecting your coupons now in a few weeks you will be completely up to speed.

Hey There!

Introductions are always a tad awkward, but we'll give it a fair try. Teen Frugalista is an upbeat blog for teens by teens about living a fabulous life on the cheap. We all know that the average teenager isn't making the big bucks just yet. To quote my economics teacher, "We have limitless wants with limited funds." Everyone does, even Bill Gates can't buy everything. While it can be tempting to blow one's paycheck from an after-school job or your allowance in one place, and really they are so meager it's not all that hard to do, it's best to save some of that money too. Maybe you are saving for college, or a car, or a Chanel bag, or maybe you want to invest in the stock market. Whatever it may be, Teen Frugalista promises to help you stretch your dollar farther because I'm the kind of girl who likes her bank account as full as her closet!
